Prof. Marinos Kavouras, obtained a Diploma in Rural and Surveying Engineering (1979) from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in Greece. He received his MScE (1982) and his PhD (1987) from the University of New Brunswick in Canada. He is Professor of GIScience and Cartography at NTUA, Director of the NTUA Cartography Laboratory and Director of the NTUA Geoinformatics Postgraduate Programme. He co-chairs the Association of Geographic Information Laboratories in Europe (AGILE) and is also an Adjunct Researcher of the “Athena” Research and Innovation Centre in Information, Communication and Knowledge Technologies. He has served as Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs and Administration of the NTUA (2018-2019), Dean of the NTUA School of Rural and Surveying Engineering for 8 years, Vice President of the Hellenic Cadastral Agency (2004-2009) and Chair of Working Group II/6 –System Integration and Interoperability (2004-08) of the International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing. He has also served in numerous organizing and scientific committees, and as a reviewer in scientific journals. Furthermore, he has undertaken various research programmes in Geoinformatics and has formed the OntoGeo group, conducting Ontological Research in GIScience. He has co-authored the book “Theories of Geographic Concepts –Ontological Approaches to Semantic Integration” published by CRC Press T&F, two books in GIS, and over 150 publications in scientific journals and conference proceedings with over 1500 citations.
